About Us

Who is Hummel Tree?

Travis Hummel, owner, has nine years experience as an arborist. He graduated from KSU with a B.S. in Horticulture with an emphasis in Landscape Design. Travis started his business in the Salina area, where he is from, and later moved it to Manhattan in order to work while he was attending college. After graduating from KSU, Travis became a subcontractor for the Housing Division of Fort Riley, doing government ordered tree care while simultaneously building his residential clientele in the Manhattan area. Travis is a Kansas Certified Arborist and Member of the International Society of Arboriculture.

Jerry Patton has been with Hummel Tree for three years. In that time he has taken the Arborist Training Course and attended the Shade Tree Conference. Jerry is in the final stages of meeting qualifications to earn his place as a Kansas Certified Arborist.

Sam Briggs has been with Hummel Tree for two years. He has taken the Arborist Training Course and attended the Shade Tree Conference. Sam is also in the process of becoming a Kansas Certified Arborist.

What Does Hummel Tree Do?

Our specialty is tree care and that encompasses a variety of situations. We are highly skilled at pruning, tree (including large) removal and stump removal. When we grind out a stump, we give you the option of having us bring in top soil and grass seed to help restore your yard as soon as possible. If we encounter an unhealthy tree, we will refer you to a qualified plant health representative. We want your trees to have a long and healthy life so we encourage regular maintenance in order to prevent hazardous situations. Hummel Tree has a 2005 UNIC rear mount 15 ton, 92 foot boom crane available for rent with an operator. In edition to all of the above features, Hummel Tree also offers a great selection of firewood. We carry two categories of hardwoods. One is good for the fireplace because it doesn’t “pop” and poses less risk for potential house fires. These woods include Oak, Ash, and Hackberry. The other group is better for an enclosed stove, since they are known for their sparks. These woods are Hedge (Osage Orange), Locust, and Mulberry. The wood is cut at an approximate length of 18 inches, split, seasoned for at least eight months, and stacked on our convenient caged pallets. We will then either deliver it to you or make arrangements for pick up.

How Does Hummel Tree Do It?

Hummel Tree owns a variety of equipment that helps us get the job done safely and accurately. Our newest addition is a 2005 UNIC rear mount 15 ton, 92 foot boom crane. It takes the "risky" out of risky removals and allows us to handle the removal process with a lot more ease. The crane is also available for rent with an operator. The bucket truck is a versatile piece of equipment that lets us get right next to the tree at varying heights.

Our Coyote mini wheel loader has been an excellent, yard friendly asset. It is small enough to get into most yards, light enough to cause nearly no damage, and still strong enough to carry large logs or piles of debris to our dump trailer. We have a 2006 Titan goose neck dump trailer and a 2004 Ford F-550 with a hydraulic hoist dump bed. They help us carry off the debris quickly, allowing us to return your yard back to normal. We have a Vermeer stump grinder to grind away any stumps you may have, and a log splitter that does the chopping for us so we can keep our bodies in good condition to climb your trees if necessary. In a nutshell, our equipment, combined with our experience, lets us offer our stellar services at competitive rates. It just makes “cents” to use Hummel Tree.
